The New Directions Program

Treatment with Dignity and Compassion

The New Directions Program is offered solely via telehealth so people all over California can get treatment.

Our Los Angeles eating disorder program provides an intensive, multi-disciplinary approach for the treatment of eating disorders including anorexia nervosa, bulimia, and binge eating. We are committed to a holistic approach, which simultaneously considers the physical and mental health of the client. The treatment goal is to enable clients to work through the conflicts and issues underlying their eating disorders, and to restore nutritional well-being and healthy eating patterns.

Cognitive therapy focuses on changing negative thoughts and behaviors and recognizing what triggers them.

Family therapy is an integral part of the program and enables family members to understand and support their loved ones through the recovery process.

Our program is tailored for those individuals and families who want the highest level of care in an intimate, supportive and healing environment.

Costs vary

Program Cost

New Directions Eating Disorders Center has contracts with many insurance companies. Costs vary according to the insurance plan coverage, and when the initial assessment is completed our staff will obtain authorizations for visits and determine the co-pay and/or deductible.

For clients who are self-pay, please contact staff.

Our program cost includes the initial assessment, 15 weeks IOP, an individual session with our dietitian, and depending on insurance coverage, aftercare. Our dietitian will be co-facilitating group sessions at least once per week; however, for those individuals who wish to meet with her for additional individual sessions, this will be on a self-pay basis. Additionally, services by a medical doctor and/or psychiatrist are not included in the program costs.

Eating Disorders

Treatment Strategies

According to NEDA (National Eating Disorders Association), the most effective treatment for an eating disorder is some form of psychotherapy coupled with careful attention to medical and nutritional needs. Ideally, this treatment needs to be tailored to the individual and will vary according to both the severity of the disorder and the client’s individual problems, needs, and strengths.

In the Intensive Outpatient program provided by New Directions Eating Disorders Center, we provide small group sessions by a licensed clinician specializing in eating disorders, and we also provide the services of a nutritionist and will refer to an M.D. psychiatrist when appropriate. Counseling addresses both the eating disordered symptoms and the psychological, interpersonal, and cultural forces that contribute to the eating disorder. We offer family sessions which include significant others as well as family members, and encourage their participation in the recovery process. We also coordinate care with the family physician to ensure that the client is medically stable and can benefit from an intensive outpatient program.
